Porcelain Crowns and Bridges

Porcelain Crown

The metal supports commonly found in crowns have shiny, metal faces that create an unnatural, opaque appearance with a grey band visible along the edges of the gums.

In crowns without metal support, the reflection and refraction of light through the several layers of porcelain create a feeling of natural pink color of the gingiva.

The main advantages of fully ceramic systems:

  • Allow for the passage of light, so color along the edges of the gums is preserved.
  • High aesthetic potential.
  • Similar appearance to natural teeth.
  • Low risk of secondary decay due to minimal micro leakage.
  • Longer clinical life as they have the highest tissue compatibility of all restorative materials.
  • Absence of metal structure removes the risk of allergic reaction or toxicity.
  • With the help of computer technology these systems can be produced more easily, safely and with zero errors.
