What is a space maintainer?In cases of premature tooth loss, this apparatus protects the area of the missing tooth so that the permanent tooth can emerge correctly from below. When a baby tooth is extracted or lost prematurely, the neighboring teeth will invade that space. As a result, crowding as well as difficulties in swallowing or speech may emerge.
